Finished a few

Here are a few lures that I have just recently finished. I used a new product to me, EnviroTex to coat the lures. It was actually pretty easy to work with. The hardest part was waiting the 2 days from them to dry. I am pretty happy with the way they came out. I am no artist and my paint work has much to be desired but they should fool some fish. The epoxy really gives them a shine and it should protect them against toothy critters. Way better than the spray on varnish I was using.

With the way this weather is going, I may get to use a few of them before the ice shows up.

Sorry about the quality of the pics, my camera sucks

Peace and chicken grease

Lures for production

Haven't mentioned lures lately. Been busy with family and school. This winter however I plan on getting back into making some. I have two models that have been successful this season (you can see some teeth marks in them), so I will be recreating these in different colors and with some different depth ranges. I will also start work on some Gilder type baits. I will post pics as I get some finished.

PS: the ruler is 20cm.

Politics.............. less and less for me.

I have been chewing on this for a few years now. I was born and raised a very conservative Republican. That's right REPUBLICAN. The first time I was able to vote for president, I voted for Bob Dole. The second time I was able to vote it was for Bush (W), and I voted for him the second time he ran.
I never did much research on candidates in the past, it said R next to a candidate, he/she got my vote. That was true from county elections to federal elections, you are republican you are my kind.

All that being said, I question my Republicanness (I know, not a word, bite me). I hear the mindless dribble that comes out of the GOP's candidates for president and I want to bash my fucking head into a wall. The anti-science shit is reGODDAMNdiculous. No vacancies don't cause retardation, yes we are fucking with the environment. Think before you open your mouth. The republican party is moving further from the reservation. Their science literacy is equivalent to my 4 year olds. Pathetic for supposedly educated people. Separation of church and state is an absolute must, full fucking stop.
I am still down with small government and big military. I will probably always point that way. But as for the rest, it makes me cringe.

Since I have lived over here I admit that I don't follow US politics as much as I used to. I have not met another conservative over here and tend to have talks with others who think I am crazy for voting for Bush, let alone admitting it and saying I have done it twice with no remorse.

These days I don't think I can wear my "Proud to be a Republican" hat (yes it is a real hat that I own). I don't plan on voting in the next election. I don't think at this point any of the candidates represent my views and opinions. I will not vote because I don't like the other guy. That is pure chicken shit.

So for the time being I will watch from across the pond, getting shit from my liberal friends the whole time.

Life is a bitch......that is a good thing.

Most of us have had something in our past that changed the course of our lives. That could be in a small way or in a  huge way, for better or worse (even if at the time you don't see the better part).
Having the ability to screw up is what makes us human. It is what makes up who we are. The key is not to dwell on it but to learn and move on from it. You can not live in the past, you can not undo a mistake.

I started this post a month ago and just came back to finish it. But reading it again, I think that is all there is to be said.

LIFE IS A BITCH...... big fucking deal.

Take your kids fishing!!!

As I have said I love to fish. What I love more than just fishing, is fishing with kids. To see that look on their face when they hook up and fight the fish. That is what it is all about. Making sure your kids get hooked on fishing so they can pass it down to their kids or their friends is what more fisherman need to do. Many fish for the quiet and the peace and to be one with nature. I love all that, I have no problem fishing by myself, but if I can get a wee one to go with me I will.

Get out there with your kids and put a smile on their face!!!!!

The first video is of my nice and the second of my 4 year old.

Fishing with the folks

My parents are in town visiting for a couple of weeks. This gave me a chance to play guide, which I quite enjoyed. The first picture is my old man's fish. The second fish he had ever caught on an artificial bait, the 1st was the day before but we managed to delete that picture, oops. Both fish my Dad put in the boat went 70cms. Nice size for eating. The next pic is my Mom's beast. She was getting a little impatient as we were out on the water for about an hour at this point and all she had pull her line was a log. The fish hit and I killed the engine and the fight was on. My Mom was doing well but that rod tip was flailing every where. She was in the middle of the boat and I had told her that she was not allowed to stand (if she did she was sure to take a cold plunge) then the the fish change tactics and swam north, I started to turn the boat to give her a better angle to fight it when when she pretty much gave me the rod and said "I can't do it". I made her turn around and handed the rod back saying "you hooked it, you land it". She got it up to the boat and I netted it. The beast went 4.5 kilos and 89cms. It beat my lake record but I was very proud of my mom for getting it done.

A very good weekend fishing with my parents. Excellent

Lure making

So I am a being lure maker. Not very good at yet but I am trying. My painting skills are deplorable at best. However I have had success with my own lure. See Youtube video, oh and I suck and filming too.
So here are some things I am working on, including mending a finger that a took a piece out of, turns out my knife is wicked sharp. The smaller ones will be going back to the US to be tested on bass and stripers (not strippers). Along with the 2nd one down. Bills and eyelets will go on next followed by a paint job. (The tape measure is in inches)

The mind is a terrible thing

Is it just me or do other people also have wide wondering minds? I can sit and watch TV, or read blogs, or carve a lure and my thoughts jump from on thing to another. It happens like the 6 degree thing. While my thoughts are connected, the original thought and the ending thought are not even close. As an example; Last night I was watching Crocodile Dundee, in the scene they were in the boat, that got me started thinking about extending the wires on my trolling motor to the battery. Pretty easy tie in there. However with the expression that "one thing leads to another", the thought I had last before refocusing on the movie was about  sanding down a baseball bat to look new for little league tryouts when I was 12.
In between these two thoughts were probably 8 connectors. I tend to do this quite a bit.
And they diagnosed my brother with A.D.D., suckers.

I also have a habit of thinking of something I need to do during these wondering thoughts and then forgetting it. I will think of something like I have to look up something, or email someone or go get the laundry or do my homework, things like that. I loose that thought and move on to the next and then the next and then have the feeling that I was supposed to do something but can't remember it. This is where the barley connected thoughts get me into trouble. I try to think about what I was thinking about at the time that reminded me of something I need to do. The problem is my thoughts rarely follow the same paths and I loose that thing I was supposed to do until sometime later, when it just pops in my head.

If this is normal I don't know but that is how my head tends to function. And no I am not forgetful, I do remember what I as supposed to do, and as I am incredibly anal about being on time,  my deadlines are never missed.

Things that bug me

I have a tendency to get extremely annoyed at what most think is petty or insignificant. To them I say, "piss off". As this is my second post I figured if any one is reading this they should now some of my pet peeves.

#1 pet peeve: Being Late. Just don't fucking do it. The only time I find being late semi expectable is air travel. Planes are late, luggage is lost, understandable. I am a Uni student and live in a country that goes into a deep freeze through the winter. For the students new to the area the first time I understand them being late by depending on public transportation. In the winter with the -15°C temps and heavy snow falls, busses and trains tend to be late. To me, the bus/train was late only works once. After that you should know better.  There is always an earlier bus/train. If you ask me to be somewhere at 1800, there is a 99% chance that I will be there by at least 1745.
DON'T BE FUCKING LATE, when dealing with me.

The next few pet peeves are in random order, not so much in terms of what annoys me most.

The DH (designated hitter). You are not a true baseball player if you don't swing a bat, even if you are just laying down a bunt. You are not a true ball player if you don't field. Pretty simple really. The American league is a JOKE. Long live the true ball players in the National League.

Organic :  Of, relating to, or derived from living matter
Do not use this word if you are referring to the way crops or livestock are cultivated/raised. I can not stand people saying " I only eat organic". For fuck sake, that is all I eat. Even though my veggies have been doused in pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. They are still organic. I like my beef on roids, at least the juiced up beef in the US has flavor, not like the sorry excuse for beef in this country.
So when you want to refer to produce farmed without chemical intervention, say it, don't say organic. Also do not trump up the health benefits, there are none.  Check out this video and his podcast, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3CoIqpyPYY. Love this guy.

Again with the picky definitions. Processed food. Almost every god damn thing you put in your mouth is processed. Unless you pick it right of the tree or vine or bush, it has been processed. Example, there is a bad habit of calling American cheese processed. Let me inform you, a nice sharp cheddar doesn't come out of the cow's tit as cheddar. All cheese is processed, all of it. Until some one comes up with a consistent definition of "processed" use the words exactly describe what you are tying to convey. Because I am a dick, if I cut an apple, it is now processed. That is my definition. Anything that is not in it's natural state is processed. Say what the fuck you mean. Doesn't get any easier than that.

I have ranted enough and all before breakfast. I could go on about reality TV and alternative medical treatment with zero efficacy but I am hungry. Now I will eat my non-organic eggs on non-organic bread with a slice of non-organic processed cheese.

Peace and chicken grease.

Batter up

So why am I doing this? Good question. For some damn reason I want to share things with random strangers. At the same time, no I don't. This blog will just be what ever is on my mind. The only connection between posts are the random synapse firings in my brain.
I plan on talking about... well shit anything. I love my family, baseball, football (soccer to my American brethren), fishing and science and skepticism. One day I will be showing off a new lure I made and the next day I might be railing against the crazy claims of chiropractors or homeopathy practitioners. So much like my tackle boxes, everything gets thrown in.
I would like people to comment if they feel compelled to do so, and I will respond.

Please note that I don't proof read for shit, and I try to write as it comes to me. Meaning poor spelling, or use of wrong words (ex. won, one) I do that all the time. Oh and probably laced with profanity. I curse like a sailor so fucking deal with it or click next blog.

Now lets see if I keep up with this or I forget about it completely.
